On Saturday 4th November, we celebrated the launch of our first new boat in Durham since the boathouse fire, a women’s Stampfli four named Four Winds II.
We have been able to purchase Four Winds II thanks to the generosity of David, an alumni donor who also purchased its namesake, Four Winds. We were lucky enough to hear some of David’s fond memories of his time at VMBC from 1965-1968, and learnt that Four Winds was named after his childhood home in Malta, called the “house of four winds”.
Before it was destroyed in the fire, Four Winds took the senior women to Henley in 2019, helped the novice women win their category at Durham Regatta 2018, and won its first ever race at York Spring Regatta 2015. We are looking forward to continuing this legacy in Four Winds II.
