Women’s Eights Head of the River Race

On Saturday 9th March, VMBC went to WEHORR!

The conditions on the day were less than ideal, with some nasty headwinds around two corners that the crew had to fight through. The conditions leading up to the day weren’t great either, we had 2 major injuries in the crew, and lots of our fellow college crews were unfortunately scratched, so everyone was very grateful that we managed to race.

Despite these circumstances, the women’s spirits were high, pushing them to produce a killer sprint at the end. The crew’s hard work and Libby’s very nice line paid off, they finished just behind the other 3 college crews competing, and were closer to their times than at Rutherford. These results show that the women have continued to grow throughout the season and we should all look forward to what they deliver this summer.

Thank you very much to Amber, Joyce and Vesta Rowing Club, without whom we wouldn’t have raced. And of course, a massive thank you to DARC for their continued support and for allowing us to use their shells.

Challenge Academic: 9th
Overall: 152nd
